Agility Classes:

Perhaps you’ve seen agility on TV and thought "my dog could do that"…and you are probably right! Agility is a fun sport you can do with your dog that involves negotiating an obstacle course comprised of jumps, tunnels, tires, weave poles, a teeter totter and other equipment.

In our beginner agility classes, we will give you an introduction to all of the most commonly used obstacles and teach you the skills to help you and your dog discover a fun and exciting new game to play together.

Along the way, you will also learn games and tricks you can do with your dog at home to help improve your agility skills.

The emphasis in this class will be on FUN and safety. We hope to make agility class the highlight of the week for both of you.

All sorts of dogs play agility, your dog need only be reasonably fit, non people/dog aggressive and have some basic obedience - come when called, sit, lie down, etc. If you are not sure, please speak to us and we will be happy to evaluate your dog before you sign up for class.

During the good weather, we train at Playful Paws Kennel & Doggie Spa on Campbell Road, just north of Orillia. Classes usually start every 4 weeks or so; give us a call and we’ll tell you what we have available.

Winter classes are held in an unheated, new horse arena 5 minutes away. Winter class times are extremely limited so again, you’ll have to call for info.

Our agility classes are taught by Fran Jensen, who has been competing for 8 years and teaching for the last 6. She competes with 10 year old Dee Dee and 5 year old Hailey, both registered Jack Russell Terriers. Her 14 year old "Jack Daniels" terrier, Spanky recently went into semi-retirement and now just runs for fun. Dee Dee and Spanky have both earned their ATChC (Agility Trial Champion of Canada), the highest level of achievement in the Agility Association of Canada. Hailey is competing at the Advanced and Masters levels.

Fran’s objective is to make agility day the "best day of the week for you AND your dog". Our students say their dogs are literally bouncing around the car on the way to class.

Classes are small, so you will have lots of time to work with your best friend and Fran is a happy, upbeat instructor, making class time a highly positive experience for both of you. Your dog will learn using lots of treat, toys and praise, with no harsh corrections.

Obedience/Clicker Classes:

Having a stranger compliment you on how well behaved your 4 legged companion is very satisfying. Obedience training is an important part of your puppies upbringing & can be a fun & rewarding experience using positive reinforcement techniques. (Clicker Training)

You will learn how to teach your puppy/adult dog to be well behaved and get those nice compliments from strangers.

During Obedience/Clicker Classes:

Classes are scheduled to begin Sunday, September 12, 2010 from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm. Please call Cindy Kerr at 705-326-5576 to reserve a spot for you and your 4 legged companion.

You will teach your 4 legged companion to Focus on you, "Heel" comfortably on a loose leash, "Sit/Stay", "Down/Stay,  "Stand",  "Come" when called and  "Target" to an item. The classes are 7 weeks in length. At the end of the 7 weeks your puppy/adult dog will receive a personalized certificate of completion, goodie bag.
